Comparison Essay

Throughout the world, terrible things happen on a daily basis. Ray Bradbury perfectly illustrates this picture for us in his novel, “Fahrenheit 451.” But at the same time Kesha expresses her story in our mind with the song, “Praying.” And both of these show that people will always try to control you. But you can’t let them take control of everything you do, so you have to stand up for what you believe in. In “Praying” Kesha has to stand up to her abusive boyfriend, while Montag in “Fahrenheit 451” has to stand up to the government and their beliefs. From both sources, we can conclude that you should always try to be your own person, and do what you want to do.

It’s clear to see that they are both similar because both of the characters want to be themselves and not be controlled by anyone any longer. Montag shows this by defying society often. And Kesha does this same thing by getting away from her abusive boyfriend. This also helps to show that both Kesha and  Montag do not have healthy relationships with the people around them. And most importantly, they both try to spread the word about the corrupt things that are happening around them. Both, Montag and Kesha do drastic things to get their points across, such as telling the people around them. But they can’t always help. So sometimes you have to stand up for yourself.

Although Kesha and Montag seem practically the same, they are both different in various ways. Though they are both in unhealthy relationships, Kesha had an abusive boyfriend while Montag’s wife leaves him and the entire government hates him. Their problems and the way they spread the word about the problems they are having are completely different. Kesha had a bad boyfriend, so she expresses herself through a song. On the other hand Montag does whatever he can to upset the government, and he does so by committing crimes and defying the rules. So saying that  Montag and Kesha are a complete match is a bit of a stretch. But in both “Praying” and “Fahrenheit 451,” Ray Bradbury and Kesha both illustrate the idea of how important it is to be unique and different from the crowd.  But if you were to read and listen to the book and the song, the readers should know you should never let someone control you. Even though someone tells you to do something, you are always allowed to think for yourself. No can ever take away your freedom of speech or thought. The most important thing is that you always need to be unique and express yourself, or I guess you can just blend in with the rest of the robots.

Thematic Essay (Fahrenheit 451)

In a world where all trace of books are destroyed, is  where Ray Bradbury’s dystopian novel, “Fahrenheit 451 ,” takes place. In this suburban city located in the US, firefighters turn books into ashes. Montag, an on duty firefighter is able to see through the corrupt society he is living in. But he and everyone else that thinks different is punished for this, even though they believe it is the right thing to do. This shows the reader one of the many lessons, just because everyone around you is doing something, that doesn’t make it the right thing to do.

From the start of the novel, the author describes the setting showing the readers the corrupt society around the people. If you are smarter or in some way different from the rest, you are punished. In the beginning of the book it states that, “People are afraid of firemen,” This leads Montag to ponder about his actions of being an on duty firefighter. This makes him start to  change how he acts. But this also messes with his normal life. And yet he continues to do these things because Montag is able to see through the dark society that is portrayed throughout the entire story.

Towards the middle of the story, the author continues to provide detailed descriptions on how Montag feels. Through this we can tell that Montag is now almost certain that the government is wrong about books being so corrupt, and yet he is still confused. But he decides anyway to commit even more crimes. In the novel, Montag reads a poem out loud and he is the only one not scared by it. This shows the reader that maybe Montag is doing the right thing and that books are good for the future of the society.

Then finally at the end of the book, now Montag is assured that he is doing the right thing through lots of evidence. For example, Montag says, “One of them has to stop burning.” This means he strongly believes in this because throughout the novel he is constantly informed through actions and words about the society, and through his interpretation he determines that what he is doing is right.

This all makes sense, but there is another side to the story. The government could be right in banning books and controlling the people’s decisions that they make. In the beginning of the book it states, “Books were first burned to get rid of English influence on colonists.” So getting rid of books may help the people so they aren’t under a bad influence and have the people rise against them. Because then they would lose their power, so they have to inforce these rules. But if you looked at this from another angle, you would realize that in a democracy, the government shouldn’t have all the power. The power should be divided evenly throughout the people of that place. This is why I  think the a moral of the story is that you should always do what you think is right, not just follow the crowd.

Introduction to Fahrenheit 451

Though the book hasn’t directly said where this book takes place, we can infer that it takes place in the US in the near future. It takes place in a urban area. This area is similar to where I live, but also I don’t see firefighters burning books everyday.I live in a neighborhood that isn’t directly next to a city, like in the book. But I do live relatively close. This is how i would describe that setting in the book.

Guy Montag is a firefighter in a society where firefighters burn books. But Guy is starting to think about his decisions, and find out more about this society. And yet, Clarissa keeps influencing him to think about this. This isn’t like me because I’m not a firefighter. And I don’t think most people burn books very often. That is how I would describe Guy Montag.

The Breakfast Biters

You shuffle your feet down the hall, your stomach growls, and you think to yourself “food, I need food!” And as you look around, you see your many different  peers stumbling down the hall, almost as if they were zombies. These creatures come together to form horde of students, all surrounding the breakfast area. But after they consume their meal, it is almost like a cure, and your fellow classmates return back to their normal form. And yet some fellow students are still left hungry throughout the building.

Throughout the world students are left hungry, this is because they are unable to get the breakfast they need to get through the day. Think about this, if all students were able to get breakfast every day, then they would get the boost they need in school. Many students say that they don’t have enough energy to get through the day, and some have even fallen asleep in class. Also multiple studies have shown that kids who don’t eat breakfast were less able to learn. “Without glucose,” explains Terrill Bravender, professor of pediatrics at Duke University, “our brain simply doesn’t operate as well. People have difficulty understanding new information, they have problems with visual and spatial understanding, and they don’t remember things as well.” But many parents and students disagree and say that kids don’t need to eat a good breakfast every day because they get lunch. In reality, breakfast is how kids get energy to power their brains. Without breakfast kids are left brain dead.

Like the parents, school officials may also think that kids don’t always have to have breakfast, But if you “recognize the multiple benefits of breakfast for strong bodies and smart brains, that’s great. If you make certain that your children never leave home without a breakfast of whole grains, fresh fruit and Greek yogurt or backyard eggs, that’s awesome for your kids. Their metabolism got a great kick-start and their brains have the fuel they need to focus on the teacher and learn new information every day,” says Dayle Hayes, MD, RD award winning nutrition expert. But students may not always get the chance for their parents to make them a feast, so getting the chance to receive breakfast at school is a great opportunity.

It’s important to realize that eating a nutritious breakfast can have some good effects on you such as getting better work ethic, make fewer mistakes in math problems and to perform better on vocabulary tests than those students who ate an unhealthy breakfast. The kids that did eat a good breakfast also showed improved concentration, alertness, comprehension, memory and learning. Beyond academics, children who eat breakfast show decreased anxiety, depression, and hyperactivity. The breakfast that is offered at school can improve child’s overall nutrition by providing her or him with necessary vitamins and minerals and could actually reduce the chance of childhood obesity. Unlike the kids who ate sugary and unhealthy foods for breakfast didn’t receive these same benefits, and yet these students did better in school than the students that didn’t eat a single thing for breakfast that day. But schools seem to have started to figure out that students need to eat, so they have started to hand out a packaged breakfast to kids that need it.

Throughout schools across the globe, more and more of your classmates are being turned into hungry animals. But you could help stop this crisis by spreading the word about how helpful breakfast is. All students need to eat a healthy breakfast every day of the week in order to excel in not just school, but in every aspect in your everyday life.

The Most Important Meal of the Day (Rough Draft)

Picture this, you walk through your school and throughout the halls students roam hungry and tired, could eating a nutritious breakfast change this and give these kids the boost they need in school? Is breakfast really the most important meal of the day? Or does starving your brain help you in the long run? People may think it’s obvious what the answer is, but are they correct?

Think about this, eating a good breakfast could actually help you perform better in school. Multiple studies have shown that kids who don’t eat breakfast were less able to learn. Many students have said they are too tired in the morning. Hunger during school can lead to lower math scores, attention problems, behavior issues, emotional issues, and academic problems. So starving your brain is never a good thing. And overall students who don’t eat breakfast can still have a chance to improve their scores in school. Which is why having the school provide breakfast to students is a good thing.

Some seem to think that kids don’t need to eat breakfast every day. But they do, which is why all schools need to have some sort of breakfast program for certain reasons, studies have shown that students that don’t get the chance to eat breakfast may not do as well in school. So getting some sort of breakfast program in their school may boost their overall grades. Students may not have enough energy in the morning and may even fall asleep, and then they will be unable to perform in school. Which makes the point that all schools need some sort of breakfast program have even more benefits.

Although eating a good breakfast can have some good effects on you such as getting  better work ethic, make fewer mistakes in math problems and to perform better on vocabulary tests than those students who ate an unhealthy breakfast. These kids also showed improved concentration, alertness, comprehension, memory and learning. Beyond academics, children who eat breakfast show decreased anxiety, depression, and hyperactivity. The breakfast that is offered at school can improve a child’s overall nutrition by providing her or him with necessary vitamins and minerals and could actually reduce the chance of childhood obesity.

It’s known that eating a healthy breakfast everyday can help to boost your grade. But you may not have known that people who eat sugary foods for breakfast tended to do worse than the kids who ate a healthy breakfast. But at least they still out performed all of the kids that did not eat at all.

At first you may have thought that eating a good breakfast isn’t a big deal. But now you see that eating a healthy breakfast everyday will help you in the long run. It will improve all your grades, make you work faster, and you will not be left hungry during the big test. So breakfast really is the most important meal of the day.

Newcast

Uniform Crisis!

On August 24, 2017 rumors were passed around that we were getting uniforms. But then in 2nd Period, Mr. Hoering’s Language Arts class, the rumors were proven true. Mrs. Oak’s delivered the news that Blackhawk Middle School would be getting uniforms the week after labor day.

After this speech students are not liking the idea of being forced to wear the same thing everyday. Some even say there may be some sort of a riot near the date that we would receive uniforms.

And yet, teachers and administrators say that these uniforms can actually help the students. For example Mrs. Oaks stated that these uniforms will help students, “Dress for Success.” Meaning that having uniforms better the whole school.

Is it better to strip students of their creative minds? Or should we let them have the choice? If this is serious, then what other changes might this bring? What will this change bring to school systems across the nation? Will it bring knowledge or rage?

“I am the Reader?”

The last book I read was The Night Gardener ,  I read it because the book interesting and it stood out from  the other books.

The new book I got today was Still Life with Tornado , Which I chose because it was on the new shelf and it looked like a good book. I think it will be about a girl named Sarah, who is confused about her life.
